Summer Voice Camp is a week-long camp aimed to give your child an unforgettable musical experience as they put together an original music performance in one week.

Participants will learn music theory and musicianship; practice improvisation, dance, and rhythms; play recorders, Orff, and other instruments; and sing opera and musical theater literature.

Most of all, they will have a great time while they learn! Voice Camp is open to children 8-18 years of age; no experience is needed – just a love of singing!

Voice Camp location:

Cabrillo College

VAPA 5000-Music Building

6500 Soquel Drive, Aptos, California 95003

DIRECTIONS

You may begin to set up your child for Voice Camp by starting the three-step process to enroll and the fee is $25 for the week-long camp.

Enrollment instructions below. More camp details below.

There are a couple of forms to download and signatures required from parents and/or guardians.

One form needs a current school administrator signature for Cabrillo College’s requirement of dual enrollment, so this needs to be signed before the school year ends. The summer course name and number for this form is MUS-36 Chorale.

CYC board members are available to assist you with the enrollment and registration process. The sooner you start the process, the more time we have on our end to help get your camper onboard, so please don’t hesitate to reach out. If you get stuck anywhere along the way, please send us an email at cyc.staffers@gmail.com.

OlympicsofMusicBanner copy.jpg

The theme for this year’s Voice Camp is "The Olympics of Music". There will be three groups:  the Athenians, the Spartans, and the Olympians.

The plots are twistier than a city full of agoras.  "Now was that left or right at the statue?"

Our Voice Camp operas are written around some sort of conflicts that are resolved by aspects of the beauty of music

Students will be placed in one of three groups.  These groups rotate throughout the day, allowing each student to take all 7 classes.  It is astounding how much they will learn in such a short amount of concentrated time!

  • Daily arrival time:  8:30 am, with Pick-up at  3:00 pm.  Please escort your student(s) to class and then come in at pick-up, as there is a quick a check-out procedure to send everyone on their way home.

  • Camp polo shirts will be handed out on the first day of camp for all new campers and for those needing a new size.  Please bring $25 on Monday (cash or check made out to Cabrillo College)  - this is not the same as the materials fee entered at registration.

  • Please send your singers in with a water bottle (hydration station available in bldg), snacks as needed, and lunch.

  • The building can be on the cooler side, so please dress accordingly.

Voice Camp is designed to give your child an unforgettable experience. Each day is organized around a fun theme and camp concludes with students performing a ‘mini’ operetta - a dramatic story told through song, music, and movement. The script is written and music composed exclusively for CYC.
